Year 1

Year 1

Helpful information for parents

In Year 1 we ask that book bags come to school everyday.

Spelling tests are on a Friday. Please encourage children to practise at home. They can also write the word in a sentence to fully understand the meaning.

PE is on a Monday afternoon- please come to school in your PE kit.

How parents can help at home

Reading at home - Reading with an adult regularly is so very important to your child’s reading and writing progress. Try to read with your child as often as you can, ideally daily. (5 times a week) even if it is only a couple of pages a day. Ask questions about their reading and develop their answers into discussion about the text.

When children are writing at home, encourage neat presentation using capital letters and fullstops in sentences.
