Spring 2 Week 5

This week we have started a new story in our Talk for Writing called Gorilla. Once again the children are fully engrossed and really trying hard to remember our rules for sentence writing. In our starter sessions we have been practising comprehension reading a short story and answering questions.

In Science we have been investigating what a plant need to grow to maturity from a seed or a bulb. We have also discussed the plants we have grown ourselves both successes and failures.

In History we have learned about Queen Victoria. Before Queen Elizabeth she was the longest serving monarch, serving 63 yrs and 7 months. We also recalled how she was the Queen when both Grace Darling and Florence Nightingale our Lady with the Lamp, were serving their country and rescuing the less fortunate.

In Maths we have been measuring items in class using connecting cubes and chain links. We have also been estimating before measuring and have been surprisingly accurate. This was a lot of fun and the children all behaved very sensibly working together in pairs or small groups. I am very proud of them.

See you soon Mrs. Easton and Yr1 Team.
